Apart from easy to understand content it also has practical examples from real life cases and a section about modern developments in the field.

In addition to this carefully structured exposition of classical solid state theory based on the periodic solid and the one-electron approximation, the book also includes comprehen sive descriptions of the most active areas in modern research: Magnetism, superconduc tivity and semiconductor physics. Asked to answer, so I’ll jump in here. Kittel is probably the most popular out there. I don’t like it as much, though, because in my opinion Kittel’s style is a bit terse in that he doesn’t provide as much detail into deriving the equations as I’d.
